In the 25th Velvi Discourse, Gurumahan Reveals How Divine Intuition Chose Every Velvi Site.
While contemplating where and how to conduct the second Velvi, I received a powerful inner intuition one early morning: "Between two hills, at the center of three rivers." At first, I could not understand what it meant. Where are these two hills? Where do three rivers meet? I could not make sense of it, but I decided to wait and see.
As I was crossing the Kaveri bridge, I casually turned to one side and saw Ooratchikottai Hill near Bhavani. When I looked to the other side, I saw Perumal Hill. Then I looked down and realized I was crossing the Bhavani River at Kooduthurai, where the Bhavani and Kaveri rivers unite, along with the mystical Amudha River. The moment I saw a large rock there, the intuition became clear. I had imagined that the three rivers would meet beside a hill, but the message had actually been, "between two hills, at the center of three rivers." The moment I saw that rock, I knew this was the place where the second Velvi had to be performed. While travelling to Salem, I immediately informed the devotees at Kumarapalayam that I had found the sacred location and that I wanted to visit it first. When the second Velvi was performed, extraordinary events unfolded. On one side, a snake appeared. Somehow, a rat also appeared on the central platform. Both remained there together without attacking each other. I witnessed this remarkable scene myself. The moment I expressed the desire to build a pyramid, a magnificent meditation pyramid was created. I remained inside it for 21 days, and those 21 days brought about a tremendous inner transformation. While meditating there, one prayer continuously arose within me: "May Mother Kaveri once again overflow her banks." Whenever I looked at the Kaveri, tears filled my eyes. I prayed, "O Mother Kaveri, you once flowed majestically, overflowing your banks. Today, you have become a river polluted by sewage and industrial waste. When will you once again flow in your full glory?" In time, events unfolded accordingly. Barrages were constructed, and today the Kaveri carries water throughout the year. Many people believed that the river would never flow again because Karnataka would not release even a single drop of water. Convinced that the riverbed would remain dry forever, they even built large houses in the middle of it. We may think one way, but Nature has its own divine plan. That is why the second Velvi became a sacred ritual centred on the element of water.
After that, I contemplated where the third Velvi should be performed. The inner guidance revealed that it had to be conducted beneath the Earth. About 11 kilometres from Salem, I found the perfect location at Amaidhi Poonga, beside Amaidhi Paarai. There, in an underground chamber, I performed the third Velvi.
Having completed Velvis connected with the Earth, water, and beneath the Earth, I knew the next stage had to be dedicated to fire.
Around that time, another revelation arose within me. I understood that the 64 traditional arts had to be revived once again on this Earth. Above all of them stands the immortal art of Yoga—the Saaga Kalai, the source from which every other art emerges. This supreme yogic science had to be revealed to the world. I envisioned creating a spiritual campus with one acre dedicated to each of the 64 arts, requiring nearly 64 acres, along with another ten acres for the remaining facilities.
One day, another inner revelation came:
"Thirumoorthi Hills. The place is there."
Immediately, I remembered my days in 1981–82, when I attended the International Yoga Teacher Training programme at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Academy near Neyyar Dam. The beautiful surroundings of the ashram overlooking the reservoir inspired me to dream of creating a similar spiritual centre, where meditation halls would exist in harmony with hills and water bodies. That long-cherished dream finally took shape at Thirumoorthi Hills. Only later did I realize the deeper connection. Earlier, the second Velvi had been established where three rivers converged. Here, at Thirumoorthi Hills, three divine energies converge. That is why the next phase of the Velvi began from this sacred place.
From here, I commenced the Pancha Agni Velvi. This practice is described in the scriptures. To attain Lord Shiva, Parvati performed severe penance surrounded by four fires in the east, west, north, and south, while the Sun above served as the fifth fire. She offered her own soul as the fifth sacrificial fire in this supreme austerity.
Having completed Velvis associated with earth, water, beneath the earth, and fire, I felt that the final offering had to be made to the element of space. At first, I thought of performing the Yajna from a great height in a hot-air balloon. My intention was to remain there for 21 days, but I was told that such a thing was impossible because a balloon could neither remain airborne nor stay stationary for that length of time. Later, during a visit to Nepal, I found a gas balloon. Together with our trustee Subramaniam, we made the necessary arrangements. Even if I could remain in the sky for only about three hours, I prepared a place to sit inside the balloon and performed the Yajna in the heavens, thus fulfilling the vision of offering the Velvi to the element of space.
