In the 21st Velvi discourse, Gurumahan explains the purpose of Velvi as a means to elevate human consciousness and emphasizes that realizing the Truth transforms one into a selfless individual, paving the way for world transformation.
Guru is not conducting Velvi for attaining more spiritual powers. Velvi brings people together beyond religious divisions, rituals, and idol worship, and to create an opportunity for inner transformation. There are five forms of purity—purity of the body, mind, life-force, food, and clothing. When you sincerely follow these disciplines, especially during the month of Margazhi, you gradually transform yourself. As this transformation deepens, it leads to a profound awakening of consciousness. The purpose of the Velvi is to elevate human awareness and help you realize the truth, “You are That” and “That is I.” When you attain this realization, you naturally engage in selfless action without expectations. Expectations create mental stress, emotional disturbances, and psychosomatic illnesses that eventually affect the body's metabolic functions.
The mind is a restless monkey that constantly jumps from one object to another through the senses. To calm and guide the mind, you must give it a higher purpose. For children, devotion can guide the mind; for youth, noble aspirations can inspire it; and for elders, the search for Meiporul, the Ultimate Truth, becomes essential.
I recall how elders once played an important role in passing moral values and spiritual wisdom to younger generations. Today, although material knowledge has increased, the understanding of virtue and righteous living has declined. As a result, relationships within families and communities have weakened, and many people struggle to understand others as well as themselves. The 21st Velvi offers an opportunity for self-transformation that can lead to a great collective transformation. Through the previous twenty Velvis, I have planted the seeds of wisdom. The 21st Velvi has the power to bring those seeds to fruition. Just as a seed needs time to grow and bear fruit, a noble vision planted by a Mahan unfolds gradually and manifests its full potential in due course.
