Santhosam Podcast: Guiding Light of Spiritual Wisdom

What transforms when you finally stop fighting your mind? மனத்துடன் போராடுவதை நிறுத்தினால், நம்முள் என்ன மாற்றம் நிகழும்?

Santhosam Season 8 Episode 9

Gurumahan, in the 8th Velvi, does not ask for wealth or sacrifice as Velvi tribute, but for offering the mind itself. When the mind is surrendered to Guru, it is purified, & within that purified chitta, God silently reveals Himself.

In this 21st century, how should you be, how will you live? When you come to any yajna, you offer a tribute. In return, when you leave the yajna, those who performed it give you prasadam. In this Velvi, do you know what I ask from you? Do I ask for gold, wealth, land, your life or your body? No. I ask you to turn your mind slightly inward. The mind is truly something wonderful, it listens to every kind of trouble you tell it. But you keep calling the mind useless and spoiled. Will it listen then? It will say, “You yourself insulted me. Why should I help you?” Then it goes its own way through the eyes, ears, nose, tongue, and body. It simply follows its impulses. You follow it and remain stuck in sorrow. If you keep beating the mind down, what will you do when it turns away completely? It will drag you down and throw you into suffering. That is why you must not let the mind wander aimlessly. Until now, what have you done with your mind? You ignored it. You did not use it at all. Instead, you kept saying, “I am not the body. I am not the mind. I am not the intellect. I am Atma beyond all these.” But where is Atma? You cannot sense it, because it transcends everything form, formless form (light) and formlessness. Then people say, “It is the state beyond waking, dreaming, and deep sleep.” So you sleep. You wake up feeling peaceful. But when do you truly realize the Atma? The scriptures say Atma has nothing, it is neither male nor female, wears no attributes, stands naked and untouched. Then for whom are the Vedas, Upanishads, and all teachings given? Not for the Atma. The body is inert matter; it has no power to know. Atma transcends everything. So who receives all teachings? The mind. Good and bad, whom do they belong to? The mind. When you say, “She is a good mother” or “He is a good person,” you speak about the goodness of the mind, not the Atma. All these teachings were always meant for the mind. Through the mind alone, you must learn to differentiate the body, calm yourself, unite with divine awareness, and realize the truth that you reflect the Atman itself. Until now, you never truly used your mind. Now, will you give your mind to me for just 10 minutes? You cannot give me anything else, but you can give me your mind. Only to the mind can I reveal what my love truly is and impart my Upadesha. You are the very form of Para Brahman. If you command the mind harshly, it will become angry. It will say, “Where were you all these days? Now you come looking for me?” So first, I speak gently to it. I trust that your mind will listen. In the same way, you too must trust and listen to the Guru’s words. Practice yoga for purification of the mind. Who resides within that purified mind? God Himself. That is why it is said, “Shiva reveals Himself within the chitta.” Your mind holds extraordinary power. It can do anything. Even now during the satsang, if your mind says, “I will get up and leave,” you will leave. So, will you give me your mind? Will you listen to me? I will speak gently with your mind. This is not about seeing me as a physical form. I am not the body. I am that wondrous Atma that moves everything and fills everyone from within, without separation. You may call this a small relaxation or practice. But even practice makes the mind resist. So do nothing forcefully. Just give your mind to me. Can everyone do that? Alright.
