Santhosam Podcast: Guiding Light of Spiritual Wisdom
5THVELVI(1995)-Why is vairagya and inner awareness essential for a fearless, balanced, and meaningful life?
Let us reflect. The one who realizes the Divine within is the true Andhanan (seer). A Brahmin is not defined by birth, but by awareness of the inner Self. Who is it that hears, sees, smells, tastes, touches, thinks? That very awareness is what we call “I.” This “I” is not the body.
When the body, mind, and intellect rest in sleep, blood circulation and breathing continue, as the conscious awareness is ever present.
When we love our spouse, is it merely love for the body? No—it is the soul uniting with soul. Even after many years since someone’s passing, we still feel their presence as if they were here. Why? Because the soul is eternal, present everywhere. If we hold this faith, death itself loses its sting.
Thus, what is required is vairagya—detachment and clarity. Practice this daily: one hour of meditation, divided into three sessions of twenty minutes each—morning, noon, and evening. This becomes your dharma, your daily sacred duty. Just as breathing and water are essential, so too is this practice.
Look in the mirror—who do you see? Yourself alone. The joy you feel when seeing water, mountains, greenery, or creatures is because you have once been them. In the beginning, you were water, mountain, plant, insect. Hence, there is no fear or disgust in seeing them, only recognition.
Every being acts according to its nature: the scorpion stings, man protects. If you act with goodness, goodness will return to you. When we see all creatures with love, no problem arises. But when good thoughts diminish among humans, the balance of the five elements (pancha bhutas) is disturbed. Rain falters, nature shifts. Yet nature always waits to bless us—if only we live in harmony with it.
Therefore, meditation is not just personal—it spreads noble thoughts. Good thought, good word, good deed: when these three align, humanity shines as divine.
Children, before entering college, should be given a year of spiritual training. This will strengthen their minds, instill confidence, and guide them through life’s challenges. If parents and elders impart noble values, perseverance, and self-belief, these children will become the builders and guardians of a new Satya Yuga (Age of Truth).
Freedom was won for equality and well-being, yet suffering persists. To truly protect freedom, we must create Satya Yuga now—through the children. Even three days of spiritual training transforms students; imagine twenty-five days every year!
Thus, the responsibility lies with us. By worshipping the Supreme Light (Arutperumjyothi, Paranjyothi) daily, placing it upon our eyebrow center, our thoughts manifest into reality.
Let Wisdom Flourish!
Let Peace Prevail!
Let us protect Mother earth!
Let us protect the Universe!
