The food we eat undergoes seven types of transformations in our body.
First, the solid food we consume turns into liquid — rasa (essence). Then it becomes blood, then flesh, then fat, then bone, then marrow, and finally, in the seventh stage, it becomes semen/essence of life (vital energy).

That is why the vital life force is generated through breathing. When life-threatening diseases occur, the airways get blocked.  Either air cannot go inside, or it cannot come out.

With respect to lung diseases, there are two types: some people cannot inhale properly, while others cannot exhale properly. That is why there is a difference between normal breathing and abdominal breathing. In abdominal breathing, we push out carbon dioxide efficiently -  it is a wonderful way of exhalation. For many people, the problem is that the exhaled breath does not go out completely.

In earlier days,  when scooters used to get clogged with carbon, people would scrape it off with emery paper, remove the carbon, and then start the vehicle again.

In the same way, our alveoli (air sacs in the lungs) often get filled with carbon. When these waste gases accumulate, fresh air cannot enter. Because air always enters where there is empty space — hence, we must create that emptiness by pressing and clearing. Only then will fresh air flow inside.

It is due to the lack of prana (life force) that many diseases arise in the body. That is why breathing exercises, by channeling prana, can help us remove many illnesses.
