Santhosam Podcast: Guiding Light of Spiritual Wisdom
Thirumandhiram 579: Mooladhara is where the Kundalini Shakthi resides.
Just as the Divine resides in the sanctum sanctorum (garbhagriha) of a temple, so too does the Supreme Being—Shiva, dwell deep within the sanctum of this body. The sacred center within is the Mooladhara, the root chakra. It lies 12 fingers beneath the navel, below the Manipura Chakra. To realize Shiva in this inner sanctum is to awaken to His eternal presence within.
Line 2 and 3:
தாபிக்கும் மந்திரம் தன்னை அறிகிலர்
தாபிக்கும் மந்திரம் தன்னை அறிந்த பின்
To realize the Shiva who resides in the Mooladhara is to discover the sacred mantra—”Manthiram”—that opens the mind. மன் திறம் meaning மனதை திறம் படுத்தல். That is when the mind becomes pure and steady. When the mind remains focused deeply and becomes absorbed in meditation on the root centre (Moola Dhava), Then one can truly experience the indwelling presence of the Divine, The Supreme Being who abides within.
Line 4: கூவிக் கொண்டு ஈசன் குடியிருந்தானே
That Lord (Eesan), in the form of Nataraja, dances with one leg lifted and the other pressing firmly upon the earth. He is in eternal motion, gracefully performing the cosmic dance. This entire universe moves because *That* moves. That which causes all things to move—because it itself is in motion—that alone is God. Such a Divine Presence, as Shiva, as Eesan, manifests within this very physical body. That very Lord resides in the Mooladhara as a vibrant pulse, ever dancing. It is His dance that sets all things into motion. If His dance were to cease, all movement would come to a standstill.
When *I* move, the entire cosmos moves—For this *I* is none other than Shivam, the Supreme Self. That eternal Shiva shines resplendently in the Mooladhara. It resides below the navel, in the space between the anus and the genitals, between the Maladhwara (the gate of excretion) and Jaladhwara (the gate of reproduction). There, the Divine Energy flows silently, radiating as pure Shakti.
Because that Shiva Shakti moves, the body moves, the mind moves, and awareness flows. Even the billions of cells within the body are in motion because of it. If that movement ceases and departs, this body becomes a lifeless corpse. As long as Shivam is present, this body remains active and alive. When that Shivam departs from the body and its movement ceases, this entire microcosm — this Sitrandam — comes to a complete halt. Therefore, the Supreme Shiva who moves the vast cosmos (Per Andam), and the inner Shiva who moves the microcosm (Sitrandam), is ever-present at the center between the eyebrows (third eye chakra) as Sadashiva. When one descends from that Shiva state, it becomes the Jeeva state. But when that Jeeva becomes aware of its true Self, it can once again attain the Shiva state.
