Receiving the grace of the Almighty is the greatest blessing one can attain. When a person truly receives God’s grace, it brings complete well-being and prosperity. That is why our ancestors emphasized total surrender to God during prayer. Through such surrender, a person can fully receive divine grace — and this act of surrender is what they called *Bhakti*, or devotion. The mind becomes what It focuses on. When it constantly thinks of God, it begins to reflect divine qualities. So, to become godlike in nature, one must begin by thinking of God. That’s why prayer to the Almighty — the Creator, Protector, and Final Destination of all souls — is essential.

Though religions may use different names for God, all agree that there is only one God: loving, merciful, and gracious — the one who bestows all through His grace. As the saying goes, **“தனக்கு உவமை இல்லாதான் தாள் வாழ்க”** — Glory to the feet of the One who has no equal. Nothing in existence can compare to God. If one earns the grace of this all-powerful, incomparable being, they are blessed not only in this life but also in the life beyond.

On this **National Day of Prayer**, a personal prayer might be:

* *Almighty God, by Your grace, may my body be healthy.*
* *Almighty God, by Your grace, may my mind be at peace.*
* *Almighty God, by Your grace, may my work flourish.*
* *Almighty God, by Your grace, may my finances improve.*
* *Almighty God, by Your grace, may I live a long, meaningful life.*

The core principle here is: **what you focus on is what you receive**. The universe responds to what you ask. Therefore, our prayers must be framed positively. For instance, if you say, “I have a lot of debt, may it be cleared,” you’re affirming the debt first, and only later asking for relief. This mixed message can hinder the result. Instead, say, “Almighty God, may I be financially free and abundant by Your grace.”

Vallalar taught that prayer (*prarthanai*) is a heartfelt request to God. But since God is the embodiment of love (*Anban*), wisdom (*Arivan*), power (*Aatralan*), bliss (*Aanandhaman*), and beauty (*Azhagaan*), we must not ask Him for small or temporary things.

The **greatest wealth** we can ask for is the **wealth of wisdom** (*Gnana selvam*). With this divine wisdom, we can live righteously and do everything in this world with God as our witness. This is the highest form of prayer.

It’s like the difference between **giving someone a fish** and **teaching them to fish**. Asking for material things is like asking for a fish — it only helps for the moment. But praying for wisdom is like learning to fish — it equips you for a lifetime. Real prayer is not about seeking short-term fixes but gaining the strength and clarity to live with divine support and purpose.
