The human body is seen as a composition of the five elements—earth, water, fire, air, and space. These elements not only exist in the external world but are also present within each of us. Specific regions of the spine correspond to these elements—for example, the throat represents space, the chest- air, the navel- fire, the lower abdomen- water, and the base of the spine- earth.

Among these, air (Vata), fire (Pitta), and water (Kapha) are especially significant in maintaining internal balance. When these three energies are in harmony, nature enables us to live in good health. However, any imbalance—whether an excess or deficiency—can manifest as disease. These disorders may arise at three levels: the body, the mind, and the life force.

The remedy for such Imbalances lies not outside but within us. Known as “Muva Marundhu”, this innate healing power is accessible through self-awareness, mindful eating, proper breathing, and above all, the practice of Yoga. Yoga helps regulate the flow of Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, restoring the natural state and allowing the five elements within us to remain in balance.

Traditional natural medicine (Naturopathy as practiced in UPF) and Yoga together regulate the flow of the five elements within a human being, laying the foundation for a healthy and enriched life.
